NEW YORK — Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain in federal custody after a Manhattan jury delivered a split verdict in his high-profile trial. On July 2, Combs was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking but was convicted on two counts of facilitating prostitution.
The ruling came after weeks of testimony and deliberations, culminating in a courtroom decision that left both prosecution and defense partially unsatisfied. Despite the acquittals on the most serious charges, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian denied Combs’s request for bail. In his ruling, the judge cited concerns for public safety, pointing to evidence of violent conduct, including an alleged assault in June 2024 while Combs was under investigation.
Defense attorneys had proposed a $1 million bond package that included the surrender of Combs’s passport, regular drug testing, and strict travel restrictions limiting his movement to New York, California, and Florida. The judge rejected these conditions, maintaining Combs’s detention until sentencing.
Each prostitution-related conviction carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, placing Combs at risk of serving up to 20 years. However, federal sentencing guidelines suggest a significantly lower prison term. Legal experts estimate Combs could face approximately 21 to 27 months behind bars. He has already spent nearly 10 months in pretrial detention.
Sentencing is currently scheduled for October 3. Combs’s legal team has indicated plans to seek a reduced sentence and possibly an earlier hearing.
The trial has drawn widespread public attention, with Combs's case marking one of the most prominent celebrity criminal proceedings of the year.
