The next chapter in Nintendo’s film franchise is officially on the way. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, a sequel to the 2023 box office hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie, is scheduled to debut in theaters on April 3, 2026 in the United States and the United Kingdom, with additional international releases throughout the same month.
The project is being directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the duo behind the first installment, with a screenplay from Matthew Fogel. Composer Brian Tyler is also returning to score the film.
Voice actors from the original cast will reprise their roles, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
The sequel draws inspiration from Nintendo’s 2007 title Super Mario Galaxy. The announcement coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. franchise. A teaser preview featured Mario resting under a tree in the Mushroom Kingdom before a butterfly drifts into outer space, hinting at the film’s interstellar setting.
The original 2023 film generated approximately $1.36 billion worldwide, making it one of the most successful animated films ever released and the highest-grossing video game adaptation to date. With its proven creative team and strong brand recognition, expectations are high for the follow-up to extend Mario’s cinematic run.
