Liam McIntyre is drawing praise from Marvel fans after being revealed as the voice and performance-capture actor for Wolverine in the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine for PlayStation 5. Online reaction has intensified in recent days, with some fans calling him a strong successor to longtime Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman.
McIntyre, best known for starring in the television series Spartacus, was confirmed as the actor behind Logan in the highly anticipated game developed by Insomniac Games. The game is scheduled for release on Sept. 15, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
Fans across social media and gaming forums praised McIntyre’s rugged voice and physical resemblance to comic-book versions of Wolverine after footage from the game circulated online. Several users described the casting as “perfect,” while others said the actor captured the character’s aggressive but emotional personality without directly imitating Jackman’s portrayal from the X-Men films.
Hugh Jackman appears as Wolverine, the role he portrayed across multiple X-Men films over nearly two decades.
The upcoming game is expected to feature a darker and more violent interpretation of Wolverine, with locations including Tokyo, Madripoor and Canada. Developers have described the project as a standalone story within Insomniac’s growing Marvel gaming universe, which also includes the successful Spider-Man titles.
While Jackman recently returned to the role in Deadpool & Wolverine, speculation continues over who could eventually portray Wolverine in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. McIntyre has publicly downplayed rumors about taking over the live-action role, though fan discussion around his casting has continued to grow online.
