The body of a missing American student has been recovered in Barcelona, bringing a tragic end to a days-long search that drew international attention. Authorities confirmed that 20-year-old James 'Jimmy' Gracey, a student at the University of Alabama, was found in the water near a beach close to where he was last seen. 

Gracey had been visiting friends in the city during a spring break trip when he disappeared in the early hours of March 17. He was last seen outside a popular beachfront nightclub after becoming separated from his group. When he failed to return to his accommodation, concerns were raised, and local authorities launched a search operation after recovering his phone and later his wallet near the waterfront. 

Police divers ultimately discovered his body on March 19 in waters near the Port Olímpic area, not far from where he was last seen. Investigators say the cause of death remains under investigation, though early reports suggest there were no immediate signs of foul play. 

Gracey, originally from Illinois, was described by family and friends as a dedicated student and active member of his university community. The University of Alabama issued a statement expressing heartbreak over his death, while his family thanked the public for support and asked for privacy as they grieve. 

The incident has renewed attention on safety for tourists and students traveling abroad, particularly in nightlife districts. While Barcelona remains a popular destination for international visitors, authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding Gracey’s final hours as part of an ongoing investigation.
