Suspect in Charlie Kirk Shooting
Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on September 10, 2025, during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The shooting took place during Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour,” specifically during a “Prove Me Wrong” debate segment, which included audience interaction.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. Mountain Time at UVU. Kirk was struck in the neck by a single bullet while addressing the crowd. After the shooting, he was transported to Timpanogos Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities believe the shot came from a rooftop of a nearby building. The suspect is described as having fled the scene immediately after the attack. Law enforcement recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle near the campus, and forensic evidence, including shoe impressions, a forearm imprint, and a palm print, was collected from the rooftop.
The FBI has released images of a person of interest in connection with the shooting. The suspect is described as appearing to be college-aged, wearing sunglasses, a dark baseball cap, a long-sleeved black shirt, dark pants, and sneakers with white laces. Authorities have urged the public to assist in identifying the individual.
No suspect is currently in custody, and the manhunt is ongoing. Over 7,000 tips have been submitted to the FBI, making this among the highest volumes of public assistance in a U.S. case in recent years. More than 200 interviews have been completed. A reward of up to $100,000 is being offered by the FBI for information that leads to identifying and arresting the person responsible.
The incident has sparked widespread attention and condemnation across the political spectrum. Former President Donald Trump announced that Kirk would posthumously receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Vice President JD Vance is transporting Kirk’s casket to Arizona and will attend the funeral. Security at political events is under increased scrutiny, with several public appearances canceled due to safety concerns.
Charlie Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two children. Kirk was 31 years old.
