Two Children Killed, 17 Injured in Minneapolis Church and School Shooting

A shooting occurred on August 27, 2025, at Annunciation Catholic School and Church in south Minneapolis, resulting in the deaths of two children and injuries to 17 others, including 14 children. The shooter, a man in his early 20s with no known criminal history, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident took place during a morning mass, shortly after the school had resumed classes for the new academic year.The shooter approached the building and fired a rifle through the church windows, striking both children and adults inside.Two children, aged 8 and 10, were killed, and two others were critically injured.
Emergency services responded promptly, and the scene was secured with no ongoing threat to the community. Federal, state, and local authorities are conducting investigations into the incident.
Annunciation Catholic School serves preschool through eighth grade and had approximately 395 students enrolled. The school is connected to the church, both situated in a residential area in southeast Minneapolis.
Governor Tim Walz and other officials have expressed deep sorrow and called for community solidarity. The federal Department of Homeland Security is monitoring the situation, and support measures are being provided to affected families.
The shooting adds to a series of recent gun-related incidents in Minneapolis, including three fatal shootings within the prior 24 hours.
