Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was seriously injured in a car accident on Interstate 93 near Manchester, New Hampshire, on the evening of August 30, 2025.
The 81-year-old was traveling as a passenger in a rental SUV driven by his spokesperson, Ted Goodman, when the vehicle was struck from behind by a Honda HR-V driven by a 19-year-old woman from Concord. The impact caused both vehicles to hit the highway median and sustain heavy damage.
Earlier in the evening, Giuliani had pulled over to assist a woman who reported being a victim of domestic violence. He called 911 and remained with her until police arrived. Shortly afterward, his SUV was involved in the collision.
Giuliani was transported to a nearby trauma center, where doctors identified a fractured vertebra in his upper back along with cuts, bruises, and injuries to his arm and leg. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening. Medical staff described him as alert and stable, and he is expected to remain hospitalized for several days before being discharged with a back brace. His business partner, who is a nurse, was present to oversee his care.
Authorities emphasized that the incident appears accidental, and no charges have been filed. The New Hampshire State Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
The accident came as Giuliani, who served as New York’s mayor from 1994 to 2001 and later became a legal adviser to Donald Trump, remains a prominent though controversial public figure.
