Toyota Recalls Over One Million U.S. Vehicles Due to Rear-View Camera Defect
By Aurax Desk November 5, 2025
Toyota has issued a recall of over 1 million vehicles in the United States due to a defect in the rear‑view camera system. The problem, which affects certain 2022-2026 model-year vehicles from Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru, causes the camera display to freeze or go completely blank when the vehicle is put in reverse. This malfunction could compromise safety by hindering the driver’s ability to properly navigate in reverse, particularly in tight or crowded spaces, where visibility is crucial for avoiding accidents.
The recall affects approximately 1,024,407 vehicles equipped with the Panoramic View Monitor system, a feature designed to provide drivers with a clearer view of their surroundings through multiple cameras. The vehicles covered in the recall include a variety of Toyota and Lexus models, as well as the Subaru Solterra. Toyota has stated that affected owners will receive a free software update to fix the issue, which will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owners. Customers will be contacted directly and advised to visit their nearest Toyota or Lexus dealership to have the software installed.
Toyota has also encouraged vehicle owners to check whether their vehicle is part of the recall by using the vehicle identification number (VIN) on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website. Subaru owners can also use their VIN to verify whether their vehicle is affected.
This recall comes on the heels of a similar action taken in October 2025, when Toyota recalled nearly 393,000 vehicles for a related issue with their rear‑view camera systems. While no injuries or accidents have been linked to the camera malfunction, Toyota has acted swiftly to address the issue to ensure the safety of its customers and to comply with federal safety regulations. The rear‑view camera system is an essential safety feature that helps prevent accidents by improving visibility when reversing, and the malfunction could have serious consequences if left unaddressed.
Toyota remains committed to ensuring the safety of its vehicles and has assured customers that the necessary steps are being taken to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. The automaker’s proactive response underscores its dedication to maintaining high safety standards across its vehicle lineup, and it continues to monitor the situation closely.
