Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has officially welcomed the TT$220 million Hilton Garden Inn Hotel and Convention Centre project in South Trinidad, describing it as a critical investment that signals a shift from promises to delivery. Speaking at the ceremonial launch, she emphasized that the project has already passed key stages including approvals and planning, and is expected to move into construction within 60 days, marking tangible progress in national development.
The Prime Minister highlighted the project’s economic impact, noting it is expected to generate approximately 400 jobs during construction and 150 permanent positions upon completion. Beyond direct employment, she said the development will create opportunities for farmers, small businesses, and suppliers through expanded activity in the hospitality sector, reinforcing the government’s focus on sustainable job creation and private sector-led growth.
Positioned within a major development corridor that includes the Brian Lara Stadium, National Aquatic Centre, National Cycling Velodrome and the Point Lisas Industrial Estate, the project was described as more than just a hotel. Persad-Bissessar called it a strategic economic asset that will support business, sports, healthcare, and education, while restoring investor confidence and demonstrating the government’s commitment to delivering real results through public-private partnerships.
