Trump Administration Tightens Immigration Rules and Revokes Thousands of Visas
By Aurax Desk November 6, 2025
The Trump administration is introducing stricter immigration policies, including proposed rules that could make it more difficult to obtain a green card. The new regulations would focus on financial self-sufficiency, aiming to limit access to permanent residency for immigrants who rely on government benefits. This shift is intended to prioritize individuals who can support themselves and contribute to the U.S. economy.
In addition to these proposed changes, the administration has revoked approximately 80,000 non-immigrant visas since January 2025. The revocations are due to various violations, such as driving under the influence, theft, and visa overstays. This measure is part of a broader effort to enforce compliance with U.S. immigration laws and reduce the number of foreign nationals in the U.S. who are not adhering to the terms of their visas.
Further measures include enhanced background checks and social media monitoring for visa applicants, aimed at identifying potential risks to national security or activities deemed contrary to U.S. interests. These increased restrictions are in line with the administration’s goal of tightening the H-1B high-skilled worker visa program and limiting the availability of investor visas, such as the EB-5 program, which grants permanent residency to those making substantial investments in U.S. businesses.
While supporters argue that the changes will strengthen the immigration system by focusing on skilled and financially stable applicants, critics warn that the new rules may disproportionately affect lower-income immigrants and limit opportunities for individuals seeking a better life in the U.S. The ongoing policy changes reflect the administration’s broader strategy to reshape U.S. immigration in a way that favors economic contributions and national security interests over other factors.
