Information coming out of the U.S. State Department indicates that over 100,000 Visas were revoked during 2025, compared to around 40,000 revoked the previous year. With many types of visas on offer by the United States, the department highlighted that over 8000 students and 2,500 specialized Visas were revoked.
The marked increase in the revocation of visas stems from the stricter foreign-vetting rules and expanded post-issuance checks related to President Trump's executive order in January 2025. Some of the students and specialized worker visas were revoked following criminal charges and include fraud, drug charges, theft, assaults and D.U.I.
As we enter the new year and with over 55 million Visas issued by the U.S. of various types, the State Department indicates that for 2026 there will be an expanded vetting process on the issuance of Visas.
