Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced another widespread outage on January 16, marking the second major service disruption in three days.
According to outage-tracking service Downdetector, thousands of users reported problems accessing the platform, including issues loading timelines, logging in, and posting content. Reports surged across the United States and other regions before gradually declining.
Earlier in the week, on January 13, X suffered a similar outage that generated more than 28,000 user reports at its peak. That disruption also affected users internationally and was resolved within hours. In both incidents, the company did not immediately provide a detailed explanation for the cause.
The repeated outages have raised questions about platform reliability, particularly given X’s role as a real-time source for news, public communication, and business engagement. While short outages are not uncommon across major digital platforms, multiple disruptions within a short period are less typical.
As of the latest reports, service had largely been restored, though X has yet to publicly address what triggered either outage.
