York, 46, was arrested Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio, near his hometown of Youngstown, during an operation conducted by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. He initially faced a misdemeanor charge of engaging in prostitution after authorities said he responded to an online advertisement and arranged a meeting with someone he believed was offering sexual services. Prosecutors later amended that charge to disorderly conduct. York also pleaded no contest to possessing criminal tools, a charge related to the cellphone used in communications with the undercover operation.

A Columbiana County court sentenced York to one day in jail on each charge, with the sentences credited against time already served, and ordered him to pay a total of $1,150 in fines. He had previously been released on $5,000 bail. The NFL has said it will review the matter under its personal conduct policy, although no league discipline had been announced as of Monday. The 49ers also had not publicly commented on the case at the time of the reports.

York has led the 49ers as CEO since 2008 and became the franchise's principal owner in 2024 after increasing his ownership stake. The 49ers are among the NFL's most valuable franchises and are preparing for the 2026 season, making the case particularly significant for the organization as the league evaluates whether the incident warrants further action. York is also involved in international soccer ownership through the 49ers Enterprises group, which has an ownership stake in English club Leeds United and Scottish club Rangers.
