The annual ceremony also recognized achievements across professional and collegiate sports following a year marked by championship performances and historic milestones.
Bryson DeChambeau was penalised two-strokes at the Open.
Bryson DeChambeau was assessed a two-stroke penalty after completing his second round at the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, with tournament officials ruling he breached Rule 8.1 by improving the area of his intended swing on the fifth hole. The penalty changed his score on the hole from a bogey to a triple bogey, moving him from second place into a tie for fifth, three shots behind the tournament leader.
The ruling sparked a heated discussion between DeChambeau and rules officials, while his team argued the movement in the rough was unintentional and did not improve his lie. Despite the dispute, the R&A upheld the decision, leaving the two-time U.S. Open champion facing a tougher challenge heading into the weekend rounds.
