The Kansas City Chiefs avoided a winless September by defeating the New York Giants 22–9 at MetLife Stadium on Sunday night, securing their first victory of the 2025 season.
Kansas City entered the matchup at 0–2 following back-to-back losses that raised questions about the team’s offensive rhythm. Against New York, quarterback Patrick Mahomes provided stability, completing 22 of 37 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown. His third-quarter strike to wide receiver Tyquan Thornton gave the Chiefs breathing room after a tight first half.
Running back Kareem Hunt extended the lead in the fourth quarter with a one-yard rushing touchdown, capping a drive that kept New York’s defense on the field and shifted momentum firmly toward Kansas City. Kicker Harrison Butker was reliable throughout the night, converting three field goals to ensure steady scoring.
On defense, the Chiefs forced Russell Wilson into mistakes that stalled the Giants’ offense. Wilson, who joined New York in the offseason, finished with 155 yards passing but no touchdowns, throwing two interceptions that halted potential scoring drives. Running back Cam Skattebo was the Giants’ most effective player, producing more than 120 total yards and scoring the team’s only touchdown.
The Giants’ struggles on offense left them settling for field goals in key situations, while Kansas City capitalized on opportunities to extend drives. By the fourth quarter, the Chiefs had widened the gap enough to keep control, preventing any late comeback attempt.
The victory lifted Kansas City’s record to 1–2, providing a boost as the defending champions look to regain form in a competitive AFC. The Giants, now 0–3, remain searching for their first win under head coach Brian Daboll in a season already marked by offensive inconsistency and costly turnovers.
Kansas City will look to build on the performance in its next matchup, while New York faces mounting urgency to avoid an extended losing streak.
