Michael Jordan will serve as a special contributor to NBC Sports’ NBA coverage starting with the 2025–26 season. The announcement was made on May 12, 2025, during NBCUniversal’s Upfront presentation in New York City.
This role marks Jordan’s first official involvement in basketball broadcasting since retiring from the NBA in 2003. While the specifics of his on-air duties have not been detailed, his addition is expected to add significant value to NBC’s renewed NBA programming.
NBC is re-entering the NBA broadcast space after more than two decades, following the signing of an 11-year, $76 billion media rights agreement with the league. Coverage will begin in October 2025, featuring games on both the NBC network and its streaming service, Peacock.
NBC’s broadcast team will include play-by-play commentators Mike Tirico and Noah Eagle, with Jamal Crawford and Reggie Miller as analysts. Former NBA star Carmelo Anthony will serve as a studio analyst. The network also plans to bring back the iconic "Roundball Rock" theme song, originally used during its 1990s NBA broadcasts.
Jordan, a six-time NBA champion and five-time MVP, previously owned the Charlotte Hornets and is currently involved in motorsports through 23XI Racing, a NASCAR team he co-founded.
