Smith described the killing of the child as deeply disturbing and said investigators were treating the matter with urgency. When asked about possible gang involvement, Smith declined to identify any groups or suspects, citing the sensitivity of the investigation. He said authorities did not want to glorify individuals connected to criminal activity and stressed that investigators were focused on solving the case and preventing further violence.
Residents in Belmont and nearby communities expressed shock following the killings as police maintained a heightened presence in the area. Investigators had not publicly disclosed a motive up to the latest reports, and no arrests had been announced.
