A man and a woman have been charged with the murder of 25-year-old Shyana Ruiz, who was fatally stabbed in Chaguanas on July 29, police confirmed. The pair, who were detained shortly after the incident, were expected to appear before a magistrate after charges were laid. Ruiz, of Quarry Road, Diego Martin, died after suffering multiple stab wounds to her back, head, face, chest and hand.

Investigators said Ruiz had gone to the Edinburgh 500 area of Chaguanas to collect TT$4,500 that was reportedly owed to her by a former boyfriend. Police allege that an argument developed after she arrived at the residence and escalated into a violent confrontation. A relative who accompanied Ruiz was present during the incident, and investigators say the accused fled before being arrested by police later the same day.
