The Hall of Justice in Port of Spain, where High Court proceedings are under way in a case involving police detention orders.
The court order requires investigators to formally set out the grounds on which the detainees are being held while the matter remains before the judiciary. The Hadeeds are facing allegations linked to a conspiracy to murder investigation, but the case has not yet gone to trial and the evidence has not been tested in court. Attorneys representing the family have argued that questions remain over due process and whether the length and circumstances of the detention comply with legal requirements.
Separate filings before the court include complaints from the detainees regarding their treatment while in custody, including allegations related to detention conditions. Police have maintained that the arrests form part of an active and ongoing investigation into serious criminal allegations. The matter is expected to continue before the High Court as further submissions are made and reviewed by the judiciary.
