Trinidad and Tobago police have obtained arrest warrants for Kaia Sealy in connection with the fatal shooting of Joshua Samaroo following a completed investigation and legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Authorities say Sealy is currently out of the jurisdiction of Trinidad and Tobago.
Kaia Sealy is wanted by Trinidad and Tobago police after arrest warrants were issued in connection with the death of Joshua Samaroo.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), investigators submitted a detailed case file to the DPP after reviewing evidence from the January 20, 2026 incident in St Augustine. Following consultation, prosecutors advised that criminal charges be laid and further inquiries were conducted before warrants were issued.
Police say Sealy is wanted for three counts of shooting with intent to cause grievous bodily harm against police officers, as well as manslaughter in relation to the death of Samaroo during the same incident. Authorities allege she unlawfully caused his death, though full details of the evidence have not been publicly released.
The TTPS said the warrants have not yet been executed, and Sealy has not been taken into custody. Officials stated that additional updates will be provided as the investigation and legal process continue.
The case stems from a January 2026 confrontation in St Augustine that resulted in Samaroo’s death and injuries to Sealy. The incident has drawn public attention and scrutiny, particularly after video footage circulated online and prompted questions about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Police also clarified that comments made during a recent media briefing did not indicate that officers would be charged in connection with the matter, but instead reflected the legal direction provided by the DPP following review of the investigation.
