$193.5M in Cocaine Found Hidden in Backhoe Tyres

Trinidad and Tobago police have seized about 416.5 kilograms of cocaine valued at an estimated TT$193.5 million during an intelligence-led operation in Longdenville. Three people were detained as investigators continued inquiries into the large drug seizure.

The operation began about 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, and continued until about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, in the Longdenville Police District. Acting on intelligence concerning the suspected concealment of firearms and narcotics at premises along Pokhor Road, officers searched a residence, warehouse and surrounding compound under Section 12 of the Emergency Powers Regulations 2026. During the search, officers found six large backhoe tyres mounted on rims inside the warehouse. A closer examination revealed rectangular packages concealed inside four of the tyres. Police recovered 420 packages, which were subsequently weighed with assistance from Customs and Excise officers and determined to contain approximately 416.5 kilograms of cocaine.
The operation was coordinated by Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Kerwin Francis of the Criminal Division, with operational leadership provided by Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police St. Clair. A 42-year-old businessman from the British Virgin Islands was arrested in connection with the seizure, while two Saint Lucian nationals, ages 38 and 37, were also detained. Crime scene investigators processed the warehouse and surrounding areas before the seized cocaine was transported to the Special Investigations Unit in Port of Spain, and the three detained people were taken to the St. Joseph Police Station pending further inquiries. Police have not indicated whether charges have been filed, and investigations into the narcotics seizure are continuing.
