Three Glock pistols, ammunition missing from Port of Spain station

Three Glock pistols, three magazines and 45 rounds of 9 mm ammunition are missing from the Central Police Station in Port of Spain, prompting an internal investigation and searches of officers’ homes. Two municipal police officers have also reportedly been detained as investigators work to determine how the firearms disappeared.

The weapons had been placed at the station for safekeeping before they were discovered missing, according to reports. Investigators from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s Professional Standards Bureau and other units have been interviewing officers and examining who had access to the firearms and ammunition. Homes belonging to officers assigned to an entire shift at the station were searched as part of the investigation, according to local reports.
The disappearance has raised security concerns because the missing weapons and ammunition were being held inside a police facility. Authorities are seeking to establish when the firearms were last accounted for, how they were removed and whether anyone breached established procedures for storing and monitoring police-held weapons. The investigation remains ongoing, and no conclusions about responsibility have been announced.
