Raúl Jiménez scored Mexico’s second goal in a 2–0 victory over South Africa in their opening Group A match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City. The forward headed home in the second half after Julián Quiñones had given the hosts an early lead in the ninth minute. The goal marked Jiménez’s first-ever World Cup strike, coming in his fourth tournament appearance. Mexico controlled much of the game despite a physically intense contest that featured multiple red cards. The result gives the co-hosts a strong start to their World Cup campaign.
