China’s Foreign Ministry has released a travel advisory warning citizens of potential security risks when entering the United States, specifically advising against using Seattle-Tacoma International Airport as an entry point.
The alert follows an incident involving approximately 20 Chinese scholars who were reportedly denied entry into the U.S. after undergoing what Chinese officials described as “unreasonable questioning” by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers, despite holding valid visas for an academic conference.

Beijing said the scholars were subjected to “malicious interrogation and harassment,” prompting what it called a broader pattern of concern for Chinese nationals traveling through the airport.
In response, Chinese authorities urged travelers to “strengthen safety awareness,” carefully review U.S. entry requirements, and avoid Seattle as a transit point where possible. Officials also advised citizens to remain calm and comply with questioning if encountered by border authorities.
Diplomatic tensions rise as China issues travel warnings for citizens entering the United States.
The advisory marks a fresh point of tension in U.S.–China relations, highlighting ongoing disputes over border enforcement practices and the treatment of foreign nationals at ports of entry. U.S. agencies, including CBP, have not issued detailed public responses to the specific allegations.
The warning has also sparked wider international attention, with Chinese diplomatic missions reinforcing the guidance across official channels and social media platforms.
