Federal authorities say they disrupted an alleged plan to attack a major UFC event held at the White House, leading to multiple arrests across several states. Investigators allege the suspects planned to use explosive drones and firearms to target attendees, including high-profile government officials.
Security officers monitor activity near the White House during UFC Freedom 250 after federal authorities said they disrupted an alleged attack plot targeting the event.
The FBI announced Tuesday that it had disrupted what officials described as a coordinated plot to attack UFC Freedom 250, a mixed martial arts event held on the South Lawn of the White House as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and President Donald Trump's 80th birthday. FBI Director Kash Patel said multiple suspects were arrested following a multi-state investigation that uncovered plans involving explosive-equipped drones, sniper positions and other weapons intended for use during the gathering. Authorities said the operation prevented what could have become a mass-casualty attack.
According to court documents and statements from federal investigators, five people have been taken into custody and additional individuals remain under investigation. Prosecutors allege the group planned to use drones to create panic among attendees before launching gunfire at fleeing crowds and attempting to target selected individuals at the event. Investigators said the alleged conspiracy was uncovered after law enforcement received information about suspicious activity and communications among participants. The White House event drew thousands of spectators and featured President Trump, senior administration officials, UFC executives and other public figures.
The case comes amid heightened concerns over threats against public officials and major public events in the United States. Federal agencies have reported an increase in investigations involving domestic extremist activity, online radicalization and plots targeting government institutions. Officials emphasized that the investigation remains active and that additional arrests or charges are possible as authorities continue examining the broader network allegedly connected to the plot. The accused have not been convicted, and the allegations will be tested in court proceedings.
