Houston Police Officer Ashley Gonzalez has been terminated following an internal investigation into viral videos allegedly showing racist remarks, with city leaders and HPD officials condemning the behaviour as unacceptable and a breach of public trust.
A Houston Police Department officer has been fired after an internal investigation into viral social media videos allegedly showing her making racist comments.
The officer, identified as Ashley Gonzalez, was terminated following what officials described as a swift review by HPD’s Internal Affairs Division after the videos began circulating online and prompted public backlash.
According to department statements, the footage allegedly showed Gonzalez using racial slurs and making discriminatory remarks about Black individuals, including comments that raised serious concerns about conduct while associated with law enforcement duties.

The Houston Police Department confirmed that an investigation was immediately launched once the videos surfaced. Officials concluded that her behaviour violated departmental policies on professionalism, integrity, and public trust, leading to her dismissal.
Houston Police leadership strongly condemned the incident. Police Chief J. Noe Diaz Jr. described the content of the videos as “abhorrent” and “completely unacceptable,” stating that such behaviour has no place in policing or public service.
City officials, including Mayor John Whitmire, also backed the decision, reinforcing the city’s zero-tolerance stance on racism and emphasizing the importance of accountability within public institutions.
Gonzalez had been placed on administrative leave during the investigation before her termination was finalized. She had joined the department in 2024.
The case has sparked wider discussion in Houston about police accountability, the impact of social media conduct on public service roles, and the standards expected of law enforcement officers entrusted with public safety.
