The United States is assessing a new Iranian proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, though doubts remain over its viability. Meanwhile, regional tensions persist as Israeli military operations continue in Lebanon despite ceasefire efforts.
U.S. President Donald Trump speaks to reporters while reviewing a new proposal to end the Iran conflict.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he is reviewing a new proposal from Iran intended to bring an end to the ongoing conflict, but signaled skepticism about whether the terms could lead to a lasting agreement.
The proposal, described as a multi-point framework from Tehran, reportedly includes demands such as easing sanctions, withdrawing U.S. forces from parts of the region and establishing guarantees against future attacks. It also addresses the status of key shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, which remains critical to global energy supplies and has been disrupted during the conflict.
U.S. officials have indicated that while diplomatic channels remain open, there is concern that the terms may not meet Washington’s conditions for ending hostilities. The administration has suggested military action could resume if negotiations fail or if Iran does not comply with expectations.

At the same time, fighting linked to the broader regional conflict has continued. Israeli forces have carried out strikes in Lebanon, targeting positions associated with armed groups operating along the border. The violence comes despite earlier ceasefire arrangements intended to reduce hostilities between Israel and Lebanon and create space for negotiations.
Previous efforts to pause the conflict, including temporary ceasefires involving Iran, Israel and regional actors, have struggled to hold as disagreements persist over key issues such as nuclear activity, territorial security and maritime access.
The ongoing conflict has had wider global effects, particularly on energy markets, as disruptions to shipping routes have raised concerns about supply stability. Diplomatic efforts continue through intermediaries, but uncertainty remains over whether the latest proposal can produce a durable settlement.
