Fighting between the United States and Iran intensified after a fragile ceasefire collapsed, with both sides launching fresh military operations across the Gulf region. The renewed violence has heightened fears of a wider regional conflict and renewed disruption to global energy supplies.
U.S. naval forces patrol the Strait of Hormuz as security concerns grow following renewed fighting between the United States and Iran.
The United States launched a new wave of military strikes against Iranian targets after President Donald Trump declared that a ceasefire agreement with Tehran had ended, marking a return to active hostilities. U.S. Central Command said the strikes targeted military infrastructure, including air defense systems, command facilities, coastal radar installations and assets linked to Iran's ability to threaten shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Washington said the operation was carried out in response to attacks on commercial vessels in one of the world's busiest maritime trade routes, while Iran rejected responsibility for those attacks and condemned the strikes as a violation of international law.
Iran responded by launching missiles and drones toward U.S. military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait, prompting air defense systems to intercept incoming threats and triggering emergency alerts across the Gulf. Explosions were also reported in several Iranian coastal cities, including Bandar Abbas, Bushehr and Chabahar, as fighting spread along the strategic southern coastline. Both governments warned of further military action, while regional authorities raised security levels amid concerns that the conflict could expand beyond its current fronts.
The latest escalation follows months of conflict that began with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran earlier this year and has repeatedly disrupted diplomatic efforts to end the fighting. Renewed attacks have again focused attention on the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments, raising concerns over energy markets, international shipping and broader regional stability. Although U.S. officials have left open the possibility of future negotiations, military operations continue, leaving prospects for a lasting ceasefire uncertain.
