Ex-gang leader guilty in Tupac Shakur murder

Davis, 63, was found guilty Monday after jurors deliberated for about three hours following a weeks-long trial. Prosecutors argued that Davis organized the drive-by shooting in retaliation after Shakur and members of his entourage assaulted Davis’ nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, at the MGM Grand earlier that night. Davis was not accused of firing the shots that killed Shakur but was held responsible for orchestrating the attack under Nevada law. The rapper was shot multiple times while riding in a BMW with Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight and died six days later at age 25.

Prosecutors relied heavily on statements Davis made over the years, including accounts in his 2019 memoir and recordings of interviews with investigators. Defense attorneys argued that Davis had exaggerated or fabricated his role for financial gain and pointed to the lack of physical evidence placing him at the scene. The other men believed to have been involved in the shooting have since died, leaving Davis as the only person charged in the case. He had pleaded not guilty and is expected to appeal the conviction. Davis faces a potential life sentence, with sentencing to be determined by the court.
