Trump Says Iran War Will End After U.S. Midterms

President Donald Trump says he expects the war with Iran to end immediately after the November U.S. midterm elections, linking the timing to what he described as Tehran’s efforts to influence the vote. His comments came as renewed fighting pushed oil prices above $100 a barrel and he separately warned Iran that the United States could strike a fortified site near the Natanz nuclear facility

Trump made the prediction Wednesday as he traveled to Dallas for the Republican National Convention ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections. He said Iran was under increasing economic pressure and would not be able to sustain the conflict, while also saying diplomatic negotiations remained possible but were not currently being pursued. The war, which has entered its seventh month, has become a growing political issue in the United States as higher energy costs add pressure on households and the administration faces questions about the duration of the conflict.
The latest escalation has also affected international energy markets. Iran said it attacked 10 ships near the Strait of Hormuz after the United States sank five Iranian oil tankers, while Brent crude rose above $100 a barrel for the first time since July. The waterway is a major route for global energy shipments, making disruptions there a concern for oil supplies and prices worldwide.
Trump also warned that the United States could attack Pickaxe Mountain, a fortified Iranian site near the damaged Natanz uranium enrichment facility that contains two deeply buried tunnel complexes. He said U.S. authorities had observed activity at the location and warned Tehran against further action, renewing threats he has made against the site since at least July. The facility's proximity to Iran's nuclear infrastructure makes any potential strike a significant escalation in the conflict.
