Minneapolis Shooting Leaves 3 Dead, 6 Injured, Including Officers

MINNEAPOLIS — Police responded to a downtown apartment building shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a 911 call reporting gunfire. Officers entered the building less than two minutes after being dispatched and found victims before hearing additional gunshots and moving toward an upper floor, where police encountered a haze that significantly reduced visibility. One victim was killed at the scene and another died after being taken to a hospital, while authorities later found the suspected shooter dead. Police have not said how the suspect died or released a possible motive.

Five people were wounded by gunfire, including two Minneapolis police officers, and a sixth person, also a police officer, suffered other injuries, according to police. One officer was shot in the leg and another was shot twice in the abdomen. Hennepin County Medical Center received seven patients connected to the incident, and authorities said all three injured officers were in stable condition and expected to make full recoveries. The Minneapolis Police Department initially warned residents to avoid the area around 15 E. Grant St. while officers secured the scene.
