Putin and Xi Expand Russia-China Strategic Alliance

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping strengthened their countries’ partnership during meetings in Beijing focused on trade, energy and global security issues.

The two leaders oversaw agreements aimed at expanding economic cooperation as Russia continues facing Western sanctions linked to the war in Ukraine. China has become one of Russia’s largest trading partners, increasing purchases of Russian energy exports while expanding financial and industrial ties.

Putin and Xi also discussed closer coordination through international organizations including BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Analysts said the meeting reflected a broader effort by both countries to challenge Western influence and deepen strategic cooperation during a period of growing geopolitical tensions
