Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine killed at least nine people and damaged a historic religious site in Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said. The latest strikes targeted several regions as Moscow continued its campaign of long-range attacks against cities and infrastructure across the country.

Overnight attacks struck Kyiv, Kharkiv and other parts of Ukraine, causing civilian casualties and damage to residential buildings and public infrastructure. Ukrainian authorities said air defense systems intercepted many incoming drones and missiles, but several projectiles reached their targets. In Kyiv, emergency crews responded to damage at the historic Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the country's most important religious landmarks. Officials reported that a fire broke out on the grounds following the attack, while separate strikes elsewhere in the country resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
The attacks came as Russia and Ukraine continued exchanging long-range drone and missile strikes more than four years after Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly accused Russia of targeting civilian areas and cultural sites, while Moscow maintains it is striking military-related objectives. The latest damage to the monastery complex has renewed concerns about the vulnerability of Ukraine's historic and cultural heritage during the conflict.
The renewed bombardment underscores the continued intensity of the war despite ongoing diplomatic efforts and international calls for de-escalation. Ukrainian authorities said rescue operations and damage assessments were continuing, while air defense units remained on alert for additional attacks. The strikes highlight the persistent security challenges facing Ukraine as the conflict remains one of Europe's largest and most destructive wars since World War II.
