A new poll shows declining support for President Donald Trump’s handling of the Iran conflict, with growing voter concern over economic pressure and war fatigue shaping public opinion ahead of key political battles.
President Donald Trump as his approval rating declines amid growing concerns over the Iran conflict and the economy.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Public approval of President Donald Trump’s handling of the Iran war has dropped sharply, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll, as economic concerns and war fatigue weigh on voters.
The poll found a majority of Americans view the military campaign against Iran as a mistake, with disapproval levels comparable to those seen during the Iraq and Vietnam wars. Only a small share of respondents described the war as successful, while most expressed doubt it would achieve its goal of stopping Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
The findings align with recent Reuters/Ipsos polling showing Trump’s overall approval rating falling to about 34%, the lowest point of his current term. The decline has been linked to rising cost-of-living pressures and the economic impact of the conflict, including higher fuel prices,
Public dissatisfaction is particularly strong among independents and Democrats, while Republicans largely continue to support the administration’s approach. However, even within some Republican-leaning groups, concern is growing about inflation and the duration of the conflict.
The war, which has included U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets and Iranian retaliation, has contributed to global oil market instability and increased domestic fuel prices, adding political pressure on the White House.
With approval ratings slipping and economic concerns intensifying, analysts say the Iran conflict is becoming a defining issue for Trump’s political standing ahead of upcoming elections.
