Rusty USS Abraham Lincoln Docks in Thailand After 286 Days at Sea

The nuclear-powered carrier docked Wednesday at Laem Chabang, near the resort city of Pattaya, after spending 264 consecutive days at sea without a full port visit. The deployment began in November 2025 and was ultimately extended as the carrier supported U.S. military operations against Iran. The ship's weathered appearance, including rust streaks along parts of the hull, has drawn attention following months of continuous exposure to seawater and sustained operations. The carrier is expected to remain in Thailand for about five days before continuing its journey home.

The lengthy deployment also raised concerns about conditions experienced by the crew, including reported shortages of some food and hygiene supplies and questions about mental health. The Navy has disputed or downplayed some of the more serious claims while acknowledging the demands of the extended mission. Pattaya has a long history as a shore-leave destination for U.S. military personnel dating to the Vietnam War, when the arrival of American troops helped transform the seaside town's economy and nightlife. The city has since sought to promote itself as a broader tourism destination, while local businesses are expecting the latest influx of U.S. service members to provide an economic boost.
