Antonio Brown Extradited to U.S. to Face Attempted Murder Charges in Miami Shooting Incident
By Aurax Desk November 7, 2025
Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown, 37, has been arrested in Dubai and extradited to the United States to face charges of second-degree attempted murder following a shooting incident in Miami earlier this year. The shooting occurred on May 16, 2025, after a celebrity boxing event, when Brown allegedly became involved in a heated confrontation outside the venue. According to the arrest warrant, Brown retrieved a handgun from a security staffer and fired two shots at the victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu. One of the bullets grazed Nantambu's neck, though he did not sustain life-threatening injuries.
The authorities in Miami issued a warrant for Brown's arrest, leading to his capture and subsequent extradition from Dubai, where he had been residing. Brown arrived in the United States and was taken to Essex County, New Jersey, where he is currently being held. He is expected to be transferred to Miami, the jurisdiction where the charge was filed. The second-degree attempted murder charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000, depending on the outcome of the trial.
Brown, who was once one of the NFL’s most celebrated players, had a tumultuous career marked by both extraordinary talent and numerous controversies. Over his 12-season career, Brown played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, and most recently, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with whom he won a Super Bowl in 2021. However, his career was overshadowed by a series of off-field incidents, including legal troubles, behavioral issues, and clashes with team management. His actions led to multiple suspensions and a temporary exit from the league before he retired from professional football.
The shooting incident in Miami is just the latest in a string of legal challenges for Brown. Prior to the shooting, he had faced accusations of domestic violence, a variety of civil suits, and public disputes with team executives. Despite the legal and personal struggles, Brown has remained in the public eye, with his actions continuing to attract significant media attention.
As the case moves forward, the focus will now shift to the criminal trial. Brown’s legal team will likely argue that the shooting was either a misunderstanding or an act of self-defense, but the serious nature of the charges will likely lead to a high-profile legal battle. If convicted, Brown faces a lengthy prison sentence, which would add another chapter to his troubled post-football career.
Brown’s arrest and extradition also raise questions about the challenges faced by former professional athletes in maintaining stability and personal control after leaving the spotlight. The case is expected to remain a point of public and media interest as it unfolds, especially given Brown’s past prominence in the NFL and the ongoing controversy surrounding his personal life.
