Giants Earn First Win of Season as Rookie Jaxson Dart Leads Upset of Chargers

The New York Giants secured their first victory of the 2025 season with a 21–18 win over the previously unbeaten Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. The game marked the debut start of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, who played a central role in the upset.
Dart opened the scoring with a 15-yard rushing touchdown on the Giants’ opening drive. He later added a short shovel-pass touchdown to tight end Theo Johnson, showcasing poise and versatility in his first NFL start.
The Chargers, who entered the contest 3–0, responded with big plays of their own. Running back Omarion Hampton broke free for a 54-yard touchdown run and converted a two-point attempt to narrow the gap. However, quarterback Justin Herbert was intercepted twice, stalling potential comeback opportunities.
New York’s defense proved decisive, capitalizing on Herbert’s mistakes and holding firm in the closing minutes to preserve the lead.
The victory came at a cost for the Giants. Standout rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers left the game in the first half with a knee injury, reported to be potentially serious. Dart himself was briefly sidelined with a hamstring issue and evaluated for a concussion but later returned to finish the game.
For the Giants, the win represents a significant turning point after an 0–3 start, while the Chargers’ first loss of the season highlighted vulnerabilities despite their strong opening stretch.
