Philadelphia Eagles Suffer Defeat to New York Giants in Week 6 of the NFL Season
By Aurax Desk | October 10, 2025
In a Week 6 matchup on Thursday Night Football, the Philadelphia Eagles (5-1) were handed a disappointing defeat by the New York Giants (2-4) in a divisional showdown that had major implications for both teams’ standings in the NFC East.
Despite entering the game as favorites, the Eagles struggled from the outset. Quarterback Jalen Hurts, who has been one of the top performers for the Eagles this season, was constantly under pressure from the Giants' defense. The offensive line, which had been a strong point for Philadelphia in previous games, failed to provide adequate protection for Hurts. The Giants' defensive front, led by linebacker Micah McFadden and edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, sacked Hurts multiple times and forced several key turnovers, including an interception. This defensive effort was instrumental in keeping the Eagles from executing their typical high-powered offense, which had averaged 28.5 points per game prior to this matchup.
The offensive struggles were compounded by injuries to key players. Running back Miles Sanders, who has been a crucial part of the Eagles' ground game, was limited by injury and failed to make a significant impact. The absence of star wide receiver A.J. Brown was also felt, as the Eagles were unable to generate the big plays they typically rely on in the passing game.
On the other hand, the Giants found success with a balanced offensive approach. Quarterback Daniel Jones played an efficient game, managing to avoid costly mistakes while driving the ball downfield. Jones’ ability to spread the ball across the field, combined with a solid running game led by Saquon Barkley, allowed the Giants to maintain a controlled tempo throughout the game.
The Giants’ defense, known for being gritty and opportunistic, capitalized on the Eagles' mistakes, forcing turnovers and limiting big plays. The pressure they exerted on Hurts and the entire Eagles' offense stymied Philadelphia's chances for a comeback, especially in critical third-down situations. The Giants also utilized special teams effectively, including a successful punt return that set up a key field goal in the second half.
As the game wore on, it became clear that injuries were affecting the Eagles' performance. In addition to Sanders, cornerback Darius Slay was also limited in his contributions, which allowed Giants receivers to gain more traction. The Eagles’ defense, typically one of the league's best, struggled to match the intensity of the Giants' offense, particularly in the second half.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, who has led the team to success in previous seasons, acknowledged the team's shortcomings in press conferences following the game. He pointed to missed opportunities and the inability to protect Hurts as the primary reasons for the loss. Sirianni also mentioned the need for a quick turnaround as the Eagles prepare for their next game.
For the Giants, the win was a much-needed boost to their season. Barkley’s return from injury provided a much-needed spark in the running game, and his 95-yard performance was a standout. The Giants’ offense, although not explosive, was effective enough to maintain control of the game, and their defense was opportunistic in shutting down the Eagles’ passing game. Jones, who has faced criticism for inconsistent play earlier in the season, played a turnover-free game and contributed a touchdown pass that helped seal the victory.
For the Eagles, this loss raises concerns about their ability to contend with top-tier defenses, especially when facing off in divisional matchups. Their ability to bounce back will be tested as they prepare for upcoming games against tougher competition in the NFC.
The Giants, while still under .500, have now shown they can compete with playoff-caliber teams. This victory is important as they look to build momentum and improve their standing in the NFC East, where the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders are also in contention.
Both teams will now turn their attention to their Week 7 matchups. The Eagles are set to host the struggling Arizona Cardinals, while the Giants will travel to face the Miami Dolphins, who have been one of the league’s most dynamic teams this season.
